Governor Cuomo Announces Mass Vaccination Site at Rochester's Dome Arena Relocating to SUNY Rochester Educational Opportunity Center

Press Release

Date: Aug. 5, 2021
Location: Albany, NY

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced the mass vaccination site at Rochester's Dome Arena will relocate to the SUNY Rochester Educational Opportunity Center, as part of the ongoing efforts to right-size the State's mass vaccination site operations and target areas of need. The last day of operations at the Dome Arena will be Sunday, August 15. The new site, located at 161 Chestnut Street, will commence operations on Monday, August 16. Second dose appointment information with details on the new site for individuals who received their first dose at the Dome Arena will be texted and emailed to the contact information on file for all individuals.

The State is continuing to evaluate the remaining mass vaccination sites to right-size operations based on demand, proximity to other vaccination sites, and other locally focused efforts. The effort reflects the State's plan to focus resources in convenient areas to encourage vaccinations for those who have not yet received the vaccine.

"While we continue to use every tool at our disposal to make the vaccine available to all New Yorkers, we are determining that some of our mass vaccination sites can meet demand using smaller spaces," Governor Cuomo said. "I urge everyone with an appointment for a second dose to honor that appointment no matter what, and be ready to show up at the new site if necessary. Meanwhile, if you still need your first shot, please come to a vaccination site near you to get vaccinated as soon as possible in order to protect yourself and everyone around you."

Following the Governor's announcement concerning vaccinations for state employees and patient-facing employees in state-run hospitals, nine new vaccination sites opened Aug. 4 in State Office Buildings throughout the State to offer additional convenient locations for employees to receive their vaccine.

New vaccination sites opened at:

Dulles State Office Building in Watertown
Hughes State Office Building in Syracuse
Utica State Office Building
Binghamton State Office Building
Empire State Plaza Concourse
Eleanor Roosevelt State Office Building in Poughkeepsie
Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. State Office Building in Harlem
Duryea State Office Building in Hauppauge
NYS Department of Labor, Hicksville
The COVID-19 Vaccine Tracker Dashboard is available to update New Yorkers on the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine and includes vaccination data by zip code. The New York State Department of Health requires vaccinating facilities to report all COVID-19 vaccine administration data within 24 hours; the vaccine administration data on the dashboard is updated daily to reflect the most up-to-date metrics in the state's vaccination effort.

New Yorkers who suspect fraud in the vaccine distribution process can now call 833-VAX-SCAM (833-829-7226) toll-free or email the state Department of Health at STOPVAXFRAUD@health.ny.gov. Hotline staff will route complaints to the appropriate investigative agencies to ensure New Yorkers are not being taken advantage of as the State works to vaccinate the entire eligible population.
